In 2017, Escobar and coworkers wrote a paper about how to make a kit that will extract viral RNA from animal cells. We based our recipe on that published scientific paper.

We have 7 of the 11 ingredients needed to make the kit. Our proposed kit comes with all of the chemicals needed to operate it. User provides pipette tips. Materials list in the recipe includes recommended pipette tip sizes and quantities. Volume of kit chemicals will be increased by 10%, to compensate for evaporation and spills.

Find remaining materials (Ethanol, PBS, MES, and 2-mercaptoethanol). Pursue online funding that will allow us to work in a chemistry lab that is up to code. We will then inform the FDA that we are going to begin building our prototype kit. We will then build the kit, test it, and send the results to the FDA. If we get FDA approval, we will order bulk materials and start producing kits.
